Part IV - Metamorphosis
I now felt the deepest connection with The Rot I had ever experienced. I could hear the whispers of the creatures nearest to me that served it. Creatures I never thought were capable of communication. Even the systems of The Rot talked to me. That’s when I sensed an issue and knew my next move.
When the journey began, we spent months surveying the entire surface of the planet. I hadn’t noticed The Rot’s dying systems or their inefficiency. Somewhere between the initial infection and the final takeover, The Rot lost momentum. The earth fought back in the subtlest of ways. The underworld of The Rot imprisoned by Gaia’s home privilege could not communicate clearly to its soldiers above. It had sent me on an unknown number of pointless tasks because my connection with The Rot was weakened. This connection needed to be restored.
We expanded the organism. The battle was one of the global scale. I orchestrated the bloody ocean waves to nourish the land, annihilating the last traces of Earth with tsunamis and hurricanes. Earth tried to stop this by halting the wind and the currents of the sea, but that didn’t matter. The Rot exceeded Earth’s liveliness, because the organism can act through its own volition. Foot soldiers sacrificed themselves for the land, morphing into the different organ systems on every continent. The crimson roots of the organism pumped life into every ecosystem. This allowed for more children of The Rot to be born.
The Rot’s offspring now had the energy of worker bees, patrolling every surface inch. I only had one more system to audit. The core. I detached myself from the physical body I had held for months and entered the root system through the depths of the ocean. Followed by my mechanical companion. Despite being one of the few remaining inorganic materials, the spider proved very useful to me.
Full knowledge of every nook and cranny of the organism I helped build, I roamed where I pleased. Creating new routes of dominance along the way to the gem at the center of the planet. Earth’s mantle was now filled with still, coagulated blood. My spirit swam through it with ease. The core was no longer metal as it had been before The Last Plague. Mother nature had taken over. Made it her organic home-base to take shelter in. It vibrated violently as I approached. Mother nature reacted with a defensive frequency on her deathbed. It was a shame none of her children lived to send her away on her departure. Her weak spirit was the last thing that I needed to consume to complete my mission.
The vibrating intensified. My minion transformed to a sharp point as it did when it entered my body all those months ago. It plunged into mother nature herself, sending waves through the biological structure of her body. The temperature raised. The core, fiery hot now, pushed me back. I let it, awaiting my opportunity. The frequency slowed — temperature cooled. I morphed with the slush of the blood around me and passed the material barrier the spider made, mutating The Rot’s living being with the now icy cold dead core.
I exploded with nuclear energy, creating a bone structure in every direction for the planet in a way it hadn’t before. The blast expanded my being throughout the system and I took occupancy of the organism. I felt electrical waves coming from all directions. An omniscient eye sparked to life in my consciousness. I knew every moment, past, present and future that existed on this new planet. An evolved planet. A planet of Rot. My transformation was complete.
I am The Rot.
